Aunt Sandy’s BBQ Sauce

BBQ has a distinctive flavor, often because of the sauce that is used. There are so many uses for it, most people jeep a jar or bottle handy in the fridge next to the rest of the condiments. Now, we all know home made is better than store bought so give this one a try. It’s easy to make, only messes one saucepan, and you can bottle it and save it for weeks in the fridge.


  • Whole onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp bacon grease
  • 3 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 3 tbsp Worcestershire
  • 2 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 3 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp seasoned salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper


  1. Sautee onion in bacon grease until soft. Add vinegar, Worcestershire, ketchup, water and simmer for a few minutes while stirring constantly
  2. Add mustard, brown sugar, seasoned salt, pepper and simmer on low for 15-20 minutes
  3. Serve with any bbq, ribs, pulled pork, baked beans, or anything that needs an awesome bbq flavor.
