Position Summary:

The Event Chef is a key member of the Powisset Farm culinary team, reporting to the Chef/Instructor and collaborating with the Public Programs and Engagement Manager.  The role embodies the importance of locally grown, farm fresh food and demonstrates the importance of farm-to-table whenever possible. The Event Chef is responsible for preparing delicious, high quality, fresh, flavorful food for public programmed events.  The Event Chef must have strong food presentation and event timing skills. 

Food is prepared in the Powisset Farm kitchen, a fully equipped commercial and teaching kitchen, housed in a renovated 19th century barn.  Food is also cooked in a seasonal outdoor kitchen featuring a wood fired brick pizza oven, teaching and demonstration space and a bar.  The outdoor kitchen is adjacent to a pergola covered patio and rolling lawn next to planted agriculture fields.  Public events take place inside and outside depending on the weather. 

The ideal candidate is a culinary professional who can manage a team of individuals with a range of experience levels and skill sets. The Event Chef should possess the following skills: strong leadership, sense of urgency, teaching mindset, culinary knowledge, sense of food artistry, strong communication skills, and an understanding of the importance of cleanliness and efficiency. We are looking for a culinary professional who has a collaborative, patient, no-drama demeanor and a good sense of humor.  The role interacts and engages with visitors, volunteers, and staff members. Knowing how to solve problems on the fly and adapt to obstacles calmly is paramount. The Event Chef must be able to comply with and enforce sanitation regulations and safety standards. Management and organizational skills are essential. 

Pay Range: $20/hr -$22/hr

Qualifications

Qualifications 

  • Experience cooking high quality food in a professional or commercial kitchen: 3 years preferred 

  • Experience cooking in a catering firm: 2 years preferred 

  • Kitchen management: 2 years preferred 

  • ServSafe and Allergen Awareness Certification 

  • Experience working in a public or private events setting 

  • Responsible and committed, very patient, exceptional attention to detail and safety 

  • Demonstrated interest in farm-fresh, locally sourced food 

  • Ability to both work independently, and collaborate with a team 

 

About Powisset Farm: 

Historic 109-acre Powisset Farm is a beautiful, beloved part of the Dover, MA community and is owned by The Trustees, Massachusetts oldest and largest land conservation organization.  Powisset Farm is home to a 300-person organic vegetable CSA, year-round public programming and a network of trails for passive recreation, which connect to an additional 2,000+ acres of open space.  Powisset’s robust culinary program includes cooking classes for all ages in its teaching kitchen, with a focus on farm-fresh, locally sourced food wherever possible.  Immersive culinary programs and private chef’s table dinners are also popular offerings.  The farm’s programming regularly incorporates food prepared at the farm, including the farm’s popular farm-fresh wood fired brick oven pizza.  The Powisset Farm Store sells food prepared at the farm and Powisset’s popular children’s summer camp, Farmer, Forester, Chef! features a cooking class for campers each day.
