Job Summary
Sous Chef is the second-in-command in a kitchen, assisting the Chef de Cuisine and the Executive Chef, in managing daily operations and ensuring smooth workflow. This position is responsible for preparing dishes, overseeing kitchen staff, assisting with menu planning, and maintaining quality standards. Sous Chefs also manage inventory, order supplies, and ensure adherence to safety and sanitation regulations.
Sous Chef Key Responsibilities:
• Food Preparation: Prepare dishes according to recipes, ensuring quality and consistency.
• Supervision: Oversee and supervise kitchen staff, delegating tasks, and providing training.
• Menu Planning: Assist with menu development, creating specials, and managing ingredient stock.
• Inventory Management: Track inventory, ordering supplies, and ensuring adequate stock.
• Safety and Sanitation: Adhere to and enforcing food safety regulations and sanitation practices.
• Quality Control: Ensure food quality and presentation, addressing customer complaints.
• Problem-solving: Address issues and challenges that arise during service.
• Coordination: Liaising with waitstaff to ensure timely and accurate order execution.
• Time Management: Ensure kitchen activities operate efficiently and in a timely manner.

Skills and qualifications:
• At least 2 years of culinary management experience in high-volume, full-service kitchen.
• Strong Culinary skills with ability to lead, develop, and motivate a team.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Creative and up to date on food trends and concepts
• Experience in a busy restaurant is preferred
• Strong aptitude in Microsoft Office programs and general computer use required.
• Must be detailed oriented.
• Basic math skills and ability to understand financial report
• Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and Holidays
• Culinary degree or college education preferred
• Valid ServSafe Food Handling Certification required
• Punctual and reliable
• Great customer service skills including listening carefully and exercising patience.
• In-depth knowledge of food principles and best practices.
• Passion for creating incredible food that delights and attracts customers.
• Excellent communication skills and leadership qualities.
• Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
• Exceptional standards for cleanliness, health, and safety.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand and walk for the majority of shift.
• Ability to stand for long periods without a break and lift up to 50 lbs
• Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand and arm movements, and overhead reaching.
• While primarily an indoor job, must be able to walk and drive outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, heat).
Compensation
Compensation will commensurate with experience and education.
